One thing I hear often enough from readers is how they prefer the in-store experience of shopping versus shopping online. Certainly, there are many benefits to shopping in-person, such as, not having to pay or wait for shipping, being able to see and feel the product before purchasing, or concerns over privacy when products are mailed to one's house or apartment that he or she shares with others, just to name a few.

Typically, when it comes to pantyhose, I'm an online shopper because I prefer the quality of European pantyhose and, well, I ain't in Europe. For a long time now, my options locally have been extremely limited. With few exceptions, I've found most pantyhose sold domestically to be long on price and short on quality.

However, there may just be hope on the way...maybe.

It started with Wolford which, in addition to having some boutiques local to my area, also sold their products in high end department stores near me, such as Bloomingdale's and Saks Fifth Avenue. More recently, small lingerie boutiques have begun popping up around me and declaring war on the likes of Victoria's Secret. Many of these boutiques carry a very small sample of high-end pantyhose brands, such as Gerbe, in addition to their lingerie inventory.

As I continue to always keep one eye on the hosiery market and continue to insist that European pantyhose is gaining popularity stateside, I may have finally found a hosiery brand that agrees with me: Penti. Penti is a hosiery manufacturer based out of Istanbul, Turkey. Penti has been in existence for over 60 years, but their product really took off more recently when they made vast improvements to their product quality, as well as introducing many different types of fashion hosiery to their sales lineup.

As luck would have it for me, their first location for a store in the United States turned out to be in Cambridge, Massachusetts, about a couple of miles from where I live and work. Their Harvard Square location is the first of what they hope will be many, as they've already slated their second store opening for New York City in the not-too-distant-future. As you might imagine, walking into a store like this is quite an experience for me. There is some lingerie and shapewear on display as well, but, for the most part, the store is dedicated 100% to hosiery. The walls and tables are covered with what seemed like hundreds of different styles. I was very much a kid in a candy store.

My hope is that their venture turns out to be more successful than they ever imagined, causing other hosiery brands to begin to dip their toe into the US markets. Maybe soon more people will get to experience good European hosiery for themselves and see why I've been singing their praises so much for so long.

Who knows? When I said pantyhose were coming back, maybe I actually knew what I was talking about (for once...).

Review: Cette Brooklyn Pantyhose

The reviews aren't over yet. I'm kicking off this week with yet another one for you!

30 denier pantyhose can be somewhat of a rarity. It seems most brands like to manufacture a 20 denier pair for sheerer looks, and a 40 denier pair for a denser look. It can often be difficult to find that happy medium where the pantyhose are quite apparent on the leg, but the leg is still perfectly visible through the hose. Finding a good pair of 30 denier pantyhose can be even harder. For all the pairs of pantyhose I own, I can't think of too many good quality 30 denier pairs.

Well now I have one...the Cette Brooklyn Tights, this week's pick from UK Tights. The very first impression I get from these tights is how strong they are. These are good for all day long wear, when you don't want to have to worry about damaging your pantyhose. With a slightly more opaque look, these are a good option to wear more casually with a skirt and boots, certainly a perfect combination for this time of year. But they'll also pair quite nicely with a suit and heels, so they're great for the office as well. There really is no shortage of uses for this particular pair of tights.

They also look great on the leg. They're soft and smooth with a hint of shine to them to really give off that finished look. They're also super comfortable, and include a wider anti-roll waistband to ensure that they'll stay in place all day long.

The Cette Brooklyn pantyhose are composed of 89% polyamide (nylon), 11% elastane (lycra), and 1% cotton. They're available in 4 sizes, fitting heights between 4'9" and 5'11". They're made from a double-covered lycra that contributes greatly to their durability. They're sheer to waist, fully boarded, and have a reinforced toe. These tights have all the makings of a luxury pair, without having to pay the luxury price. In fact, they're a good bargain at just under $20. Not bad for a pair of pantyhose that should last you for a very long time.

Hard to believe, but we're already at the final pantyhose review of the week. And I may very well have saved the best for last.

The Pierre Mantoux Charente Pantyhose from Stocking Showcase is another example of what has, for a while now, been my favorite pair of pantyhose: The 20 denier satin sheen pantyhose. You can definitely chalk this pair up among my other favorites with the like of the Wolford Satin Touch 20, the Oroblu Magie 20, the Kunert Satin Look 20 and so on.

As I'm sure you have no problem telling from the photo (courtesy of Stocking Showcase) these are just a brilliant pair of sheer pantyhose. You may also be able to tell, just by looking, that these are satiny smooth and pure pleasure to wear. I'm not sure if I'd be able to tell the difference between this pair and the Wolford Satin Touch 20 if you gave a pair of each. The biggest difference, as it turns out, is in the price tag.

Like some of the other ultra-shiny, ultra soft pantyhose, the secret seems to be in the double-covered lycra. The feel is so soft and smooth, the stretch is good, and the feel is something you probably have to feel for yourself to believe. All-around, these are just a perfect pair of pantyhose, and I'm pretty sure they go down as my favorite pair of the week. Just perfect for a Friday!

5 down, 1 to go. It may be hard to believe, but this will be the sixth different online pantyhose store that we'll be profiling this week. I don't want to hear from anyone that they don't know where to shop for good pantyhose after this ;-).

Hosieria has been around for almost 9 years now, as it was started in May of 2003 by Ernst Mende in Germany. After spending many years in marketing for various businesses, he decided to give his own venture a try. The name was originally 'The pantyhose-stockings-hosiery shop' but after realizing that that name didn't exactly roll off the tongue, they decided to shorten it. They ended up settling on 'Hosieria' as they viewed their business as a sort of pizzeria for hosiery. Just as you can step up and order pizza in a pizzeria, they wanted their business to be where you ordered your high quality hosiery from.

The idea seems to be working just fine. Not only does Hosieria sell a huge collection of pantyhose, they also sell tons of legwear for men and children as well. Despite being a small sized company of only 12 employees, Hosieria is delivering to a big market as they are currently selling to customers in 85 different countries. Also, unlike many web-businesses, they try to treat their store like a brick and mortar shop. Want to take a look inside? You can check out their Facebook or Twitter pages to get a better look at what they're doing, with their Twitter page being especially useful, as it is the quickest way to learn about the latest markdowns.

But, not to lose sight of what's really important, Hosieria is a great place to shop for pantyhose. Currently, they're carrying 41 different brands, including many of my favorites such as Falke, Kunert, and Oroblu. Hosieria is a perfect place to buy your basics as they carry a huge selection of styles and colors and their prices are most often much lower than their competition. Most recently when I was looking to stock up on one of my personal favorites, the Falke Seidengatt 15s, Hosieria was the first place I looked. After all, not only do they carry these pantyhose in 7 different sizes and a ridiculous 24 different colors, they also do so at a price that is as much as 50% less than the same pantyhose at other stores. If that isn't enough, they'll also give you a discount if you're buying in bulk.

Just like the 5 stores profiled before it, I love Hosieria for its own unique reasons. While I shop for pantyhose a lot, it's one of the few places I shop. Hopefully, just like the 5 stores before this, you'll be checking out all that Hosieria has to offer very soon for yourself.

Hoseiree is my favorite US-based web retailer of pantyhose. This website, better than any other, seems to understand the differences of imported pantyhose. They have a very impressive list of designers that they sell, including a few that aren't so easy to find anywhere else, like Franco Bombana, Luisa Maria Lugli, Ose, and Sisi, just to name a few. Carry these harder to find brands, however, doesn't mean you can't find many of the more popular ones, as brands such as Falke, Trasparenze, and Cecilia de Rafael. They carry so many different brands, in fact, that I must confess that there are still several that I haven't gotten around to trying. But don't worry, that will happen.

Hoseiree's wide selection also goes beyond basic pantyhose, as well. It's a great place if you're looking for bridal hosiery, maternity pantyhose, holiday or seasonal-themed hosiery, leggings, socks, or lingerie. It can definitely be a one-stop shop for just about anything you may need to go underneath.

Above all of this, though, fashion pantyhose seems to be what Hoseiree is really all about. A visit to their website's 'fashion' category reveals almost 2,500 different options. 2,500! Some stores don't have entire collections that span 2,500, and that is merely the fashion category at Hoseiree. It's a great place to check out if you ever want to see all that fashion hosiery is all about. Just be careful if your wallet is close by...many of these styles are too good to resist.

If you ever feel overwhelmed by all that Hoseiree has to offer, never fear. In addition to having a glossary of terms to help you out, you can contact them through their website or with an 800 number to get any questions you may have answered. You can also check out a long list of customer testimonials to see what others think or check out Hoseiree's blog to see what the latest is.

Finally, no trip to Hoseriee is complete without checking out what's new, what the product of the day is, what's coming soon, and what's can be gotten for cheap on their clearance page. Currently, their clereance section is 4 pages long. So if you're shopping on a budget, look no further.

Pantyhose Week Review: Platino Luxe 20 Pantyhose from Shapings

Over the last year or so I have been taking out a large portion of my shopaholic urges on Shapings. As I mentioned a couple of days ago, the brand name selection at Shapings is unbelievable. For those who wonder how I continue to find new brand names to review...you have Shapings to credit/blame.

One brand that I had my eye on for a while but had yet to try was Platino. When I decided I was going to do a bunch of review this week, I knew that Platino had to be among them. Now that I'm wearing a pair, I'm certainly happy with that decision. The pair in question is the Luxe 20. As I continue to mention, 20 denier is the perfect balance, in my opinion between strength and durability and sheerness. The Luxe 20 certainly proved that for me once again.

The two things that stood out to me before even putting them on this morning. First, they feel a lot sheerer than 20 denier, but also feel kind of soft and satiny. As you put them on, they definitely blend into the leg well. For those who like to blend their pantyhose in with their leg tone to create a bare-leg look, this is an excellent option. Platino credits this with using a single covered lycra developed with a special knitting technique that serves to show off more of the leg. The second thing I noticed was how the pantyhose has a contoured leg. Instead of the leg of the pantyhose just being a kind of straight tube shape, the hose actually has the shape of the leg in them before you even put them on. It seems to work, as these have an excellent fit. They feel soft and sheer on and look even better.

These pantyhose are made in Spain from a blend of 82% nylon and 18% elastane. They come in 5 different sizes fitting heights between 4'9" and 6'3". They have an opaque reinforced toe, are sheer to waist, have flat seems, and have a cotton gusset. They also come in 6 different colors. These feel like luxury pantyhose but cost a lot less at $12 a pair. If you're looking for great office-wear type hose at a very affordable price, you should definitely check these out.

Pantyhose Week: Pantyhose Q&A

About a week back I asked if anyone had any specific questions that could be answered during Pantyhose Week, and I'm happy to report, that I've got a few. So let's get to them:

Jennifer Fabulous, Cafe Fashionista, and Venus Loves Virgo all had questions about wash.

Love the question. I honestly never get tired of talking about this. I also talked about this in detail on Tuesday night, if you feel like scrolling back to check that out.

Basically, I swear by Hosiery Mate. It will wash and extend the life of your hosiery. But it is also inexpensive and ridiculously easy to use. A 16 oz bottle, which will last you months even if you wear pantyhose/stockings every day, will cost you only $7.50. That $7.50 will be paid back to you so many times, in terms of the life of your hosiery being extended, that this product might as well be free. What's more is that you soak if takes 15 seconds to wash two pairs of pantyhose. You pour a cap-full of Hosiery Mate in the sink, fill it with warm water, swish the hosiery around for 15 seconds, squeeze out excess water, hang up the hosiery, and you are done. You don't even need to rinse. It'll leave the hosiery with a nice scent and it will avoid the damage that washing machines can do.

I know they sell hosiery bags and washing machines have a hand wash cycle, but I never bother. When I can wash a month's worth of hosiery in a few minutes, and extend the life of the hose in the process, why even bother using the machine?

Also from Jennifer Fabulous: 'Do you have any tips on preventing pantyhose from ripping?' and 'What in-store brands do you recommend for me?'

You're most likely to rip pantyhose when putting them on or taking them off, so that's when you need to use the most care. Moisturizing hands and legs right before will never hurt, and definitely remove any hand jewelry first. Hosiery like to catch itself on everything, so eliminating anything it might catch on is the best approach. You want to gather the whole leg up into a ball, up to the toe, position your toe inside, and slowly roll the tights up your leg, never yanking. If they feel like they're pulling to the left and right too much, you need to start over. When taking off you want to roll them down slowly, all the way down the leg. Never pull from the toe when taking off, never pull from the waist when putting on. If you're wearing boots, exercise caution when zipping them up.

Another good idea is to try to go no sheerer than 20 denier. 20 denier is plenty sheer, and once you go below that, you're dealing with ridiculously delicate hosiery. You can do everything right, and they'll still rip sometimes. But with a decent denier count, the pantyhose should hold up unless they get caught on something.

The hardest part about in-store shopping is finding non-control top. Control top can be very useful, but for some reason, the non-control option is non-existent in this country. If you don't mind control top, I'd definitely say Hue. Hue is available in just about every department store, lots of specialty stores and costs a very reasonable $7-8 a pair. For that price you get good look, great feel, and tremendous quality. I love Hue. If you live near a Nordstrom, they actually make outstanding pantyhose as well. They have a great mixture of basics and fashion, and most of their pantyhose cost about $10 and should last a while.

Venus Loves Virgo added 'Which brands are the strongest other than Wolford?'

Wolford is definitely among the strongest if not the strongest. I have found Falke and Trasparenze to be similarly durable, however, as well. Also, for a step down price-wise, Oroblu and Kunert are two very strong brands that will cost you a lot less. I'm always impressed with the quality of any of those brands.

DeeDee asked: 'I'd like to see more value articles, and 'is it ever okay to wear sheer hose in suntan with shorts?'

I love posting about good values and I'll try to run some more out here soon. Here is the latest one I did in November. Definitely start by checking out Aristoc and Levante, as these are always tremendous values.

I think its okay to wear sheer hose in suntan with shorts. If the suntan shade doesn't match the rest of your skin tone, you may want to adjust accordingly, but I am ALWAYS a fan of the shorts with hose look. A lot of people have been doing it lately and I think it looks great!

Pantyhose Week Review: Girardi Brigitte Pantyhose from Hoseiree

I got to give yet another brand a try today when I wore my Brigitte pantyhose from Girardi, which I purchased from Hosieree. Girardi is yet another designer from Italy that makes high quality, yet affordable pantyhose. Like the pantyhose I reviewed yesterday, these are pretty sheer at 15 denier, but they're made from very strong material and should be able to withstand a good bit of wear. They have a good stretch to them as well as a sturdy feel. Unlike the pantyhose from yesterday, these are not shiny but instead have a matte finish.

These hug the skin well and feel great on. They're made from a coated lycra that gives an extra layer of stretch and protection to them, if you're someone who damages pantyhose rather easily. They're very soft and smooth and just have a high all-around quality to them. They're just the perfect pair of pantyhose for every day wear and you're sure to get a lot of use out of them.

The pantyhose are sheer to waist with a soft waist band, flat seams, and a cotton gusset. They're made from a blend of 88% polamide (nylon) 11% elastane (lycra) and 1% cotton. They run a huge range of sizes all the way up to XXL, so you're sure to find a pair that you're comfortable in. They come in 13 different colors. I decided to be a little more fun than usual this time and opted for the 'Antico' which is a soft pink color that is a apparently a more toned-down version of a pink that these tights used to come in. In fact, they add almost a splash of color on top of your skin tone, if you're looking for a more unique look than usual.

At $13.75 these are really a great value and high quality pair of pantyhose. You could buy several different colors and have the perfect set of accessories for a variety of different outfits. You really couldn't go wrong. Go out and get a few pairs of these, and get ready to give them a lot of use. You're going to love them!

Pantyhose Week Store Profile: Stocking Showcase

Stocking Showcase has been one of my very favorites since I started this blog in 2008. At the time, my blog was less about pantyhose and more about focusing on vintage lingerie. Vintage lingerie was nothing, of course, without vintage full-fashioned stockings and there was no better place to buy full-fashioned stockings (not an easy thing to find anywhere these days) than Stocking Showcase. It is an especially good place to look if you're looking for taller stockings, something that needs to be considered carefully as 100% nylon stockings have no stretch. If all of this isn't enough, Stocking Showcase has a great selection of garter belts to hold up these stockings, particularly if you're looking for a functional garter belt that can actually be worn as underwear, as opposed to just bedroom wear.

If all of this above isn't enough, Stocking Showcase is a great place to shop for pantyhose. They focus mainly on shiny satiny pairs of pantyhose, although they do carry some great pairs of matt pantyhose as well. Stocking Showcase also carries many of my favorite brands, such as Wolford, Oroblu, Cecilia de Rafael, and Pierre Mantoux. They sell these brands at some of the lowest prices I've ever seen anywhere. I can honestly buy the Wolford Satin Touch 20 pantyhose from Stocking Showcase at a cheaper price than I can buy them directly from Wolford. How do they do it? I have no idea.

When you shop for pantyhose, you're not just looking at the package and trying to guess what they look like. Everything they sell comes with a photo of a model wearing them, like the one above (Oroblu Magic 20), taking all of the guesswork out of how the pantyhose will look when you wear them.

Pantyhose Week Store Profile: Shapings

Shapings is definitely one of the more unique stores that I'll be reviewing this week. I actually only stumbled upon it, myself, just over a year ago, but I've been shopping very regularly there, since.

I first found Shapings when I was searching online for Fogal pantyhose. Having just visited (read: ransacked) a Fogal store while on vacation, and being blown away by that brand, I was eager to find someplace that sold that brand online.

As it turned out, not only did Shapings carry the Fogal brand name, they carried, it seemed an absolute endless selection of brand names, most of which I had never heard of, at the time. By my count, there is 25 different brand names of pantyhose available from Shapings. A huge amount of these brands, I had never heard of before, and I still don't see available anywhere else.

Never having been one with a lot of will power, I walked away with a lot of pantyhose. And I do mean A LOT of pantyhose. At that time I began doing 2 pantyhose reviews a week and I honestly fell in love with many of the brand names I tried from that first purchased, which included Pompea, Cecilia de Rafael, Filodoro, and Cette, just to name a few. I've become particularly enamored with Cecilia de Rafael ever since. The pantyhose I purchased from Shapings played a big part in my decision to make this blog about pantyhose, rather than lingerie and hosiery as it had been when I started. I was so happy with everything I had purchased from them, and so blown away by the selection, I decided I could, in fact, maintain a blog on just pantyhose, and not run out of things to blog about.

The interesting thing about Shapings, though, is that the store, formed in 1995, was actually built around the idea of giving women a more personalized bra-fitting experience. Pantyhose had never really been in the plan, that much. If you walk into one of their boutiques in Ontario, Canada, you won't find all that many pairs of pantyhose. What you will find, is many different shapes and sizes of bras, and professional fitters who will help you find the perfect one for you.

As many women know, finding the right bra fit can be a tricky and difficult experience. It is estimated, in fact, that as many as 3 out of every 4 women are currently wearing the wrong bra size. Shapings was opened with the idea of getting professional fitters to help as many women as possible in to the right bra.

The online store for Shapings is just the opposite. The owner, Nicole Safko, is so serious about only selling you the right bra, that she won't sell bras online at all. If you want to buy a bra from Shapings, you have to do it in person.

What you can buy online is pantyhose, and lots of pantyhose. When Shapings started selling fine hosiery from Europe, they couldn't believe how much of a demand there was for it, so they continued adding more brands and styles. They also began adding a personal marketing touch by hiring models and using their own imagery to sell their pantyhose. As you browse their huge selection of hosiery, many of the images that come with each brand are Shapings models modeling that particular pair of pantyhose. Rather than relying on the picture on the package, you can see up close how these pantyhose will look on, allowing you to make a more informed purchase and avoid a lot of the guesswork that usually comes with buying pantyhose.

Just as they don't sell bras online, Shapings does not carry much of their pantyhose stock in their boutiques. Because of their huge selection, and because they want to make their boutiques more about the bra fittings, they don't keep most of their hosiery stock in-store. But you can call ahead if you wish to purchase pantyhose and pick them up in-store.

Personally, I'd like to stop in just to thank them for their huge selection. Shapings makes it so much easier to purchase quality European pantyhose, and that's something I can certainly appreciate.

The pantyhose I am wearing today is the Elbeo Elegance 15d tights from Hosieria. This is another brilliantly shiny pair of sheer pantyhose. At this point, I've got a pretty good sense of this particular style of pantyhose as I've tried quite a few in this range. These compare pretty favorably to the Falke Seidneglatt 15, the Hudson Glamour 20, the Oroblu Magie 20, and the Kunert Satin Look 20, all of which made my top 10 list from last year.

These are every bit as good as the pantyhose mentioned above. What sets all of these apart the most from the slightly lesser-expensive brands is the smoother texture of the hosiery. The materials used to make the shinier pantyhose can often be a little on the rougher side and can have a chaffing effect on the skin. Many of the more premium brands use a higher quality material that can be both shiny and soft and smooth. I personally think that's why some brands, such as Wolford and Kunert for example, mention satin in the name of the pantyhose. Sure, satin is shiny, but it's also soft and smooth to the touch. It gives off the impression that the pantyhose can have a sheen, but can also feel great on.

As soon as I took the Elbeo Elegance out of the package, I knew they were going to fall into the "feels good as well as looks good" category. It's a little tough to explain, but they just felt extra soft and kind of silky just holding the hose in my hands. Trying them on pretty much confirmed it, as these are incredibly soft and smooth on the legs. They also have a great stretch and a good comfortable fit, as well as having a bright sheen on the legs.

I've probably said this a few times now, but when purchasing satiny pantyhose, I do prefer the 20 denier (such as the Kunert or Oroblu) over the 15 denier (such as the Falke) just for the simple reason that you gain a great deal of durability while not losing much in the way of sheerness. I know durability is important to a lot of readers (as it is to me) because we'd all like to get as much extended life out of our pantyhose as we can. All of this said, I'm very impressed with the strength and durability of the Elbeo's, even though they are 15 denier as opposed to 20. These tights are sheer without being overly delicate. With proper care (as always) you can get a lot of life out of them at a price that is significantly lower than the comparable quality Falke Seidenglatt 15. These are definitely a new favorite of mine (not bad for my first try with Elbeo) and I'm probably going to go back and get a few more colors, I like them so much.

The Elbeo Elegance are sheer to waist with a sheer toe with no reinforcement (if you're a hose with open-toed shoe kind of person, these are a great option). They are made from a blend of 82% polyamid (nylon), 15% elastane (lycra) and 3% cotton. For the larger size, the cotton gusset is removed and the breakdown is 84/16%. They do come in 5 different sizes so you're pretty much assured a good fit if you stand anywhere between 5 feet and about 6'2". You can also find them in about 9 different shades.

For those people who ask me for recommendations in the $10 range, these are your pantyhose. You can buy them for $10.49, to be exact, and you'll feel like you spent twice as much, if not more. If you're a person looking to stock up on basics, this is a good place to start. You can definitely have the feel and give the look that you spent much, much more on your pantyhose than you really did. From a quality and value standpoint, these are just an all around great buy!

Although it may seem as though pantyhose and tights have been around forever, they have only been around for the last 50 years or so. As is often the case, they were born as the solution to a problem, the problem in this case being that hemlines on skirts had increasingly become too short to cover the tops of stockings.

Stockings, as we know them today, probably also seem much older than they actually are. Nylon stockings, even the vintage or full fashioned kinds that are made from 100% nylon and require a garter belt to stay up, have only been around since the 1930s. Prior to that, stockings were always made out of cotton, wool, or silk.

In 1938, Charles Stein, a Vice President at Du Pont announced that the worlds first synthetic fiber, known as nylon, had been invented. Du Pont chose not to trademark the name 'nylon' in order to let it seep into the American vocabulary. On May 15, 1940 the first nylon stockings appeared in New York stores, and over 72,000 pairs were sold. In the first year, 64 million pairs of nylon stockings were sold and supply could not keep up with demand.

By 2 years later, production had almost stopped completely, however, as the Second World War was in full swing and almost all nylon production had switched to war supply, most particularly parachute construction. It was because of this that nylon gained some of its seductive qualities, as they were seen as a sign of status for women who could still get their hands on them.

By the late 1950s, designers had begun to attempt to invent a garment that could combine the stockings with the panty in order to make putting on and wearing stockings more efficient. The original incarnation of this garment had been called 'panti-legs' and is generally credit to Allan Gant Sr. who had come up with the idea at the suggestion of his wife, who had grown unhappy with the cumbersome process of attaching the stockings to garters. By the early 1960s production had improved making them less costly, and elastane (or lycra) had been added to the material giving the nylon stretch (something it hadn't had prior to this).

In the 1960s the miniskirt took off in American fashion. Since it was nearly impossible to combine the miniskirt with the garter/stocking combination (as the stockings didn't come up high enough to disappear under the skirt), pantyhose became a necessity. Due to both that necessity and the convenience of pantyhose, pantyhose continued to grow in popularity, surpassing stockings in sales for the first time in 1970. Growth continued from there and pantyhose reached their height of popularity in the mid 1990s, as they were seen as an integral part of business wear throughout the 80s and 90s.

Pantyhose Week: Caring For Your Pantyhose

A comment that I get a lot on this blog is some variation of "I like pantyhose, but it seems like I rip them the first time I wear them". People have also told me that they hate to spend money on hosiery as they seem to have such a short life.

A couple of years ago, I had a post on how to best prevent such things from happening. It was long. Very long. But I think it was also the most useful post I've ever had and it seemed very well-received given the comments.

I won't re-post it all right now, but if you want to see it, you can check it out here.

Here are the more important points on how to keep from destroying your pantyhose as well as how to get the longest possible life out of them:

-Hand Wash: Really you can stop here, and you've already done yourself a huge favor. All hosiery must be washed by hand...in a sink...with your hands...hand wash...got it? Woolite works just fine, but I swear by Hosiery Mate. One small bottle lasts a long time and two pairs of pantyhose (or 4 stockings) can be hand washed in 15 seconds. Hang them somewhere smooth or lay them flat, and they'll be stronger than ever and ready to wear in no time.

-When buying, look at the fabric content. More lycra (or elastane) means more stretch. More stretch means less likelihood of ripping/running when putting them on. If you've ever tried 100% nylon stockings, you already know how delicate nylon is. Also look at denier count. In general, anything less than 15 is extremely delicate.

-Take care when putting on and taking off. Bunch the hose up and start at your toe and slowly roll the legs up. When taking off, do the exact opposite, roll the hose down.

-Store hosiery away from other clothing or objects, where they could get caught on a button or zipper.

Remember. The easiest way to avoid spending a lot of money on pantyhose is to extend the life of what you own. By investing in decent quality pairs, which doesn't necessarily mean spending a lot of money, and taking good care of them, you can wear them over and over again for quite a long time.

In 2005, during a period of time when many considered pantyhose and tights to be a dying breed, a husband/wife team began a business that would attack the "dying pantyhose" notion head-on. What they accomplished could easily be called "The American Dream", if only for the fact that it happened in the UK.

In 2005 Dawn Barber operated UK Tights literally out of her dining room, with her husband Jonathan helping out while maintaining a full time job. As the business began to take off, Jonathan joined her full time two years later. Since then, the growing has only picked up the pace, as many family and friends have joined their business venture, and the business that was once operated out of one room had now grown into a 4,000 square foot warehouse.

Growth, however, hasn't changed the basic idea behind the business: "Supplying good quality hosiery at the right price". In many ways, I did not know what a difference there was between good quality and poor quality hosiery before I began shopping at UK Tights. UK Tights was one of the first websites to make quality European hosiery available in the US. You can even shop in your local currency with just one click, so you don't have to try to convert the price in your head, when you see something you like. If you live in the US, you know how hard it is to find quality hosiery, particularly if you don't live in or near a big city.

That has all changed since UK tights came along. Their product line runs across all price points, brand names, styles, denier counts, colors, or anything else you can think of. In addition, their website is the easiest to navigate. You can search for tights based upon just about every criteria you can think of. Looking to pay a certain price, see a certain brand, buy a certain color or denier count? You can always get their in one click. They also let you maintain a wish list on their website, so you can set things aside that you like and come back and buy them later.

Finally, of all the websites I visit, and places I shop, no one values customer feedback more than UK Tights. Their website is bursting at the seams with customer feedback, both on the individual pairs of pantyhose, and also on the business itself. They also encourage you to call their customer service line, or even drop by and visit them at their warehouse.

Luxe Legwear is a website that I just recently heard about, myself. Now that I've found them, I'm glad I did.

While there are other sites with larger varieties and bigger collections of pantyhose, Luxe Legwear has a unique business model that I can really appreciate. Their focus seems to be to sacrifice a certain level of selection in order to be the best at the few niches they've chosen.

I've found that most websites I've visited break down the collections they offer into categories like sheer/opaque and basic/fashion. Luxe, uses categories such as glossy/shiny and matte as well as having a special 'for men' category. While I personally don't mind shopping just about anywhere, having something like a 'for men' category can help put some newer male customers at ease, if this is one of their first shopping experiences.

For anyone who has a lot of questions about their purchase, Luxe has a huge question/answer section that covers a wide range of topics for those with questions about bridal, skin tones, hosiery care, and much more. It's a great place to start out if you are looking to begin building a hosiery collection.

Luxe specializes in 'European Pantyhose' which, if you ask me, is really the only place of origin you'd want for your hose as the quality far surpasses anywhere else in the world. They do carry quite a few of my favorite brands, such as Cecilia de Rafael, Levee, Oroblu, Trasparenze, and many others.

I've found that their prices are very reasonable, and they do often sell certain kinds of pantyhose for less than many other websites. They also have a handy tool that allows you to select multiple brands by checking a box for a more side-by-side comparison. If you haven't checked out Luxe yet, it is definitely worth a look. If you're at all like me, you may find that 'a look' most often turns into 'a purchase'.

My favorite week of the year has finally arrived! This week I'm hoping as many people as possible will be ditching the bare legs and breaking out the pantyhose is celebration of this week-long holiday.

Over the next several days I'll be posting multiple times a day (or until I develop severe carpal tunnel) with reviews, profiles, and lots of other good pantyhose-related topics. I've got my Quad Venti Nonfat Latte right here, so burnout will not be an option.

Well, friends, this will be my last post until pantyhose week. I think my plan is to sleep until Sunday, and then not sleep again until the following Sunday. Of course, I joke.......I think.

To whet the appetite, in the meantime, I do have the very latest from my friends at UK Tights. To those of you who have trouble with runs and laddering, pay special attention to the somewhat funny named Chinchillan Tights from Kunert. These pantyhose were made with special weaving technology that is said to prevent holes from turning into runs, prolonging the life of your tights. While I confess I have not yet tried these, I can happily vouch for several other products from Kunert, so if this technology works as they state, these may be the ultimate in pantyhose. It certainly doesn't hurt that they're a very reasonably priced $18. Not bad for pantyhose that should last a long, long time.

"Hose Regains a Toehold"

In a very interesting read from Elizabeth Wellington, after being almost completely dismissed by current 30-somethings, a younger generation may be welcoming pantyhose back into the forefront of fashion, thanks in no small part to stars such as Rihanna, Katy Perry, and, of course, Kate Middleton. Hosiery's well-documented decline for over a ten year stretch beginning around 2000, has been attributed to, among other things, the ever-increasing move towards more casual attire in many workplaces.

While that was welcome news to a generation that had been used to uncomfortable, often ill-fitting, and almost always way-too-easy-to-destroy hosiery, a younger generation has begun to embrace the advantages of hosiery that is now much better made than it was 10 years ago. Once such inherent advantage that has been discovered is hosiery's ability to make one outfit look like several different ones just by changing the leg wear.

While many women in the workforce remember the days when they were essentially forced to wear hosiery and bear no desire to return to such days, those who have entered this environment more recently seem more concerned with the current economy's squeeze on paychecks and raises. Those who have a certain work-wear budget don't take long to realize that accessories can go a long way in helping you get several looks out of one outfit. Pantyhose are certainly in the forefront of these accessories.

As it also turns out, those with shorter memories, who don't have the image of off-shade ill-fitting pantyhose forever burned in their subconscious, are finding their first forays into the world of pantyhose to be a pleasurable experience. Not only do pantyhose fit and feel better now, most brands also offer a shade now to match any skin tone in existence. Finally, technology has come a long way in making hosiery more durable and run-resistant, as well as some offering such options as caffeine or aloe which can help legs look more toned or moisturized.

As the workforce continues to be infused with waves of new people every year, could pantyhose be on the verge of a full-fledged return into our wardrobes? Personally, I'm just happy that idea is even being discussed.

Review: Cecilia de Rafael Marfil Tights

Halfway through the first month of the year, and no pantyhose reviews yet? I will most definitely have to put an end to that. If I'm going to be able to come close to replicating the 56 reviews I did last year, I better get started.

The good news is, I'm off to a great start.

It was like the best of both worlds when my favorite leg wear store, UK Tights, began selling one of my favorite brands of pantyhose, Cecilia de Rafael. It was the perfect addition to their already amazing selection of brands. Regular readers of this blog will know that I'm such a big fan of Cecilia de Rafael products because their quality always surpasses their moderate-to-low price points.

The Cecilia de Rafael Marfil Tights are certainly no exception. In fact, they may set the new standard by which future reviews of Cecilia de Rafael will be judged. They are 10 denier matt tights that are sheer enough that they can almost disappear on your legs, or look like "leg make up". You probably know by now that 10 denier tights can be a little tricky. The good part about them is that they can accentuate your bare legs and add a little tone to them, if you're looking to enhance your bare legs, rather than cover them up. The problem typically is that 10 denier tights can be so delicate that you need to exercise a lot of care throughout the day just to keep them from tearing or running, and even if you're successful in doing that, they can often overstretch, as the day goes on.

This is not a problem for the Marfil tights. In fact, I'm almost in disbelief that these are 10 denier, but they certainly seem so by looking at them. I can safely say that these are the strongest, sturdiest 10 denier tights I've ever worn. While no 10 denier tights could ever be completely safe from tearing, you can be put these on and rest assured that it is going to take a lot to put a hole or tear in these. These also have a high lycra content so, unlike a lot of 10 denier tights, they'll stretch to fit you perfectly, but won't overstretch. These really feel like 20 denier tights, while looking like 10. So you can put on the Marfil tights and go about your day, knowing that you're looking good, and your tights aren't going to fail you before the end of the day.

I couldn't be happier with the Marfil tights. They are definitely among the most well-constructed sheer tights I have ever tried. That construction includes a blend of 79% nylon and 21% elastane that will help these tights continue to fit well. They have a matt finish, but they do have a very subtle shine in certain lights. The have a nearly invisible reinforced toe and are sheer throughout the leg and panty, with a cotton gusset. They come in five different sizes and have a size that will fit you if you are anywhere between the heights of 4'10" and 6'2"...I think it's safe to say that's most of us. They come in three different colors.

If I put these tights on without knowing anything else about them, I'd guess they'd cost somewhere in the $20-30 range. These certainly seem comparable to some of the more premium priced pantyhose I've tried. For all of this fit and quality, I'm truly stunned that they only cost $12.56. Could these already be my favorite of 2012? Honestly, if I do another 55 reviews this year, I'm not sure I'll find another pair that I like better than these.

It may be hard to imagine, but the back has even more detail. In the middle of the back area is a two-pronged back closure, the kind you would find on a bra. It is adjustable, helping the garment to fit perfectly to your form. In addition to that, there is a large keyhole detail also in the back, giving the garment an open-back little black dress look to it. Finally, the chemise comes with a matching black string thong, also with a sheer tulle front, that can be worn underneath. The garment is constructed from a 90/10 blend of nylon and spandex.

If the Natalie chemise wasn't stunning enough, the price is even more stunning. While I've seen lesser quality chemises selling for much more, the Natalie is a steal at $39.95. I can say with confidence that this is both the most comfortable and the most flattering chemise I own. I'm certain that the only thing you'll love more than how it looks on you is how it feels. The Adore Me Natalie chemise is an absolute pleasure to wear. I honestly can't wait to see what is in my showroom next month!

Founded in 1936, Pierre Mantoux has been in the stocking and pantyhose business for over 75 years. It got it's start when Ottorino Giangrossi, an importer of German hosiery, decided to try his own hand in the design business.

The original name for Giangrossi's venture, which he started with his sister-in-law was: Industria Lombarda Calze e Telaio (literally translating to 'Stockings and Industry Lombard Frame)...or, ILCAT Stocking Factory of Milano. They were committed to using only the finest Italian silks and no rayon in their production.

In the following years his son and daughter-in-law took over the business and committed themselves to remaining in the forefront for innovation. They came up with the name for the company "Pierre Mantoux" which was inspired by the French couture that was popular among the stylish women of the 60s.

The company scored a major breakthrough in 1984 when a photo of Princess Diana wearing 'Gala Special' sheer stockings was published in the New York Times.

Pierre Mantoux has kept that momentum going, as designers such as Chanel, Dolce & Gabbana, and Giorgio Armani, to name a few, regularly request leg wear from Pierre Mantoux, to team up with their designs for runway shows.

Today, Pierre Mantoux remains a family business, operated by Patrizia Giangrossi, Ottorino's granddaughter, along with her two daughters, Chiara and Costanza.

Despite the French sounding name, their products continue to be manufactured 100% in Italy.

My New Year's wish is for the pantyhose industry to have the best year its had in a while. No, I'm not a shareholder, or an employee of some pantyhose brand or retailer. I'm just someone who wants to share the love of pantyhose.

Being the (self-proclaimed) official blog of pantyhose, I am taking it upon myself to lead the charge of pantyhose back to mainstream. And I'm asking all of my readers for help.

I am hereby declaring the week of January 29, 2012 through February 4, 2012 to be named Worldwide Pantyhose Week. Catchy name? Not so much? Maybe we'll just go with 'Pantyhose Week' for short. I will be constantly reminding you of these days over the next few weeks.

What is Pantyhose Week, you ask (you did ask, right?)? It's a week of reviews, profiles, giveaways, reader participation, and, of course, pantyhose. It's a week where I humbly ask any and every woman and man who reads this blog to ditch the bare legs in favor of pantyhose...for just five days.

Why that week? The holidays are long since over and we're in the dead of winter with little to look forward to. Spring is still far away. Bare legs are not an option for many. Seems like a good week long distraction during a time when we're all desperate for one.

Your job: If you've got five pairs of pantyhose, you're already ready. If not, you've got a few weeks to hit your local retailer/department store. Or better yet, find a few good options from the pages of this blog. Hopefully by now you know, you don't have to spend a lot to obtain a few good pairs of pantyhose.

In the meantime, I'll be putting together five reviews, myself, for that week. I receive many comments on how I review names/styles that people haven't heard of. I'll be trying to find some more hidden gems like that.

We'll wrap up the week with, what I consider to be, a pretty cool giveaway. I'll be passing along the details of what that giveaway is and how to enter as the week draws closer. So I do hope you all take part in what I hope, going forward, will be my favorite week of the year.

Top 10 of 2011 #1 Kunert Satin Look 20 & Oroblu Magic 20 (Tie)

I really did have two favorite pairs of pantyhose for 2011, and I couldn't decide which one I liked more, so I took the easy way out and picked them both. Of all the pantyhose I tried this year, these both did really stand out in a very big way, so I thought I'd just go ahead and put them both at the top.

Kunert Satin Look 20 - Originally reviewed on 1/11.

I had seen the Kunert name around before, but these were the first pantyhose I had ever tried from them. My initial reaction was that I could not believe how much they reminded me of the Wolford Satin Touch 20, as I even pointed out in a follow-up post, shortly after reviewing the Kunerts. Other than the tags, of course, really the only other noticeable difference between the two, as I pointed out in the post, was price, as you should be able to find websites that will sell you two pairs of the Kunert pantyhose for what it would cost you to buy one pair of the Wolford's. Other than that, I can vouch that they are made from similar construction, look and feel just about the same, and they're available in equally as many sizes and colors.

Trying the Kunert's prompted me to run out and buy an additional seven or so pairs, I was so much in love with them. These really are my favorite pantyhose and I can't see anything to come along to change that...

...except for...

Oroblu Magic 20 - Originally reviewed 6/24.

I had already formulated a serious love for Oroblu even before trying the Magic 20. I had liked everything I tried so much that there was no question in my mind I would like the Magic 20s before I even tried them. I was not disappointed. These were the same high quality, bright shine and sheer comfort as the Kunert's, and the Wolford's too, for that matter. As much as I loved some of my other products from Oroblu, these quickly became my favorite.

These have the same sensual feel as the Kunert pantyhose, and cost only a dollar more. Upon trying these, I pretty much had to stock up on them. They remind me very much of the Falke Seidenglatt pantyhose (#4 on this list), but they were stronger and sure to outlast the costlier Falke.

Out of everything I tried this year, these two really were the ultimate pairs of pantyhose. They shaped my purchases going forward throughout the year, and I found myself comparing everything else I tried, as the year went on, to these two. I hope everyone enjoyed this countdown, and I hope everyone has a fabulous New Year.

I probably don't say this enough, but thanks to everyone who stops by my blog, regularly. As I type this on December 29, I am shocked to say that there have been over 262 thousand page views on my blog this year. When I started this a few years back, I had doubts that anyone would read this. When I switched to a pretty much all pantyhose format, I assumed I'd lose many of my readers. I don't think I'll ever stop being amazed by your support, and I can't thank everybody enough.

Top 10 of 2011 #2 Max Mara Diana

Along with Wolford, Max Mara is the brand most responsible for making me the pantyhose addict I am today. This blog began as a lingerie blog, with the intention of touching on leg wear from time to time. Like most people, my pantyhose experience, at that time, was pretty much limited to what I had purchased off the shelf in department stores. It was nice enough, but still more of an afterthought. Until, that is, I, pretty much by accident, purchased a pair of Max Mara pantyhose at a large post-Christmas discount. Between that pair and some of the Wolford and Falke purchases, I came to realize that pantyhose are a pleasure to wear. If you ditch the department store hose and buy products from Europe, it's a whole different experience. That began the process of this blog becoming more and more about pantyhose.

The Diana's were my favorite of the favorites. As I've said quite a few times now, Max Mara makes the softest feeling tights I've ever tried. They feel very luxurious on the skin. On top of that I was (and still am) positively in love with the small hoop pattern, done over these sheer pantyhose. I'm always a fan of the dot look on pantyhose, and this was just a well-done variation of that.

These remain among the tights I wear as often as possible. As soon as they come out of the wash they are always back in the front of the drawer, where I can grab them and wear them right away again.

Top 10 of 2011: #3 Hudson Glamour Glossy Tights

These pantyhose are proof that price isn't always the best indication of what you're getting. The Hudson Glamour Glossy Tights retail for around $12, yet I thought enough of them to place them a slot ahead of the much more costly Falke Seidenglatt 15.

The reason for this is that I believe the Hudson pantyhose actually deliver a bit more quality than the Falke counterpart. For one thing, the Hudson's have a comfort top that is better than any I've seen on any other pantyhose. The band is wide and soft and helps to keep the pantyhose in place while also not rolling. Anyone who has dealt with the annoyance of cheap pantyhose that slide or roll out of place know how important that is.

In addition, the pantyhose are 20 denier so, while sheer, they are stronger than the Falkes and should last for many additional wears. I can't even remember how many times I've worn these pantyhose, and they still look as good as the first time I wore them. With a little care, these tights really can last for a long time. And it isn't too late either, as they are still available for purchase on the UK Tights website.

Kate, Katie, and The Revival?

As long as I'm in year-in-review mode, why not take a look back to that afternoon in July when I, in my own tongue-in-cheek way, relayed my happiness to the world (and deeply annoyed one reader, in the process) over the idea that Duchess Kate Middleton was bringing pantyhose back. While I don't typically follow the Royals at all, this one news bit that Middleton was a regular pantyhose wearer made me as happy as it apparently made many other fashion bloggers quite the opposite. But it seems her influence could not be denied as respondents to an US magazine poll responded that "stockings were elegant" by a 3 to 1 margin, now that Kate was wearing them.

Fast forward to three days ago and the premier of Mission Impossible 3. The aligning of the stars has seemed to continue as Katie Holmes dressed for the big event in blue dress finished off by some pantyhose. As the accompanying story notes, it seems stockings are making a comeback.

Indeed, the product that had been declared Dead at 43 is in the midst of a revival of sorts. Sure enough, as Autumn, and eventually Winter descended upon my fair city, stockings are becoming more and more present.

As you might expect, I couldn't be happier with this development. I'll refrain from walking around town and dropping a few "I told you so"s, since I've been wearing the pantyhose all along. But I am hoping that Katie has a little bit of the influence Kate has. If she does, and some of our other fashion icons continue the trend, who knows, maybe we'll all soon be in pantyhose.

If and when that day comes, just don't forget who's blog had been extolling the virtues of pantyhose all along ;-).

I Don't Think This Is Gonna Work

Some of you may have noticed I'm not doing my Hollywood/Celebrity thing nearly as much as I used to. But a couple of relevant topics have hit the (sort of) mainstream lately, so why not get back into it for a day?

ABC has recently green-lit a new sit com "Work It", that has the Human Rights Campaign, as well as various other GLBT groups up in arms. Briefly, the concept behind this show, from what I can gather, is a couple of "manly men," as they put it, lose their jobs as car salesmen and soon discover that it's a woman's workplace out there, these days. Logically, they dress in drag in order to, I don't know, level the playing field, I guess, and land jobs as women. One of the print ads for the show, which is set to launch shortly after the new year, show a backside view of the two...er...gentlemen, in drag, at urinals, skirts hiked up with the caption They Wont Take Unemployment Sitting Down.

Couple of initial thoughts:

-While you can certainly make the argument that this is offensive to the transgender community, this appears, to me, to be more of a shot at females, many of whom still struggle for equal wage and respect in the workplace. Lost in the uproar caused by GLBT groups, is the premise of the show that it is, in fact, guys who face discrimination in the job market today. I can't help but wonder how many women were sitting in the board room when this show was green lit, and how they reacted to this idea, given their own climb into said boardroom.

-I admit that sitcoms can often come with a certain need for suspension of disbelief...my next reaction is....really? These are two guys with lipstick in a dress and a wig. We're supposed to believe they convinced all of their co-workers they're female?

-ABC is quick to point out that it is among the forefront in networks to prominently feature gay couples and situations, most notably in Modern Family and Grey's Anatomy. It can also be argued, however, that transgender and gay are still two separate entities (and those who are familiar with the struggle to get the Transgenter 'T' added to the Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, and Transgender acronym (GLBT) might probably agree) . Perhaps more importantly, the two shows mentioned above primarily incorporate gay topics into their show in a positive light. At best, this show has nothing to do with transgenderism, as the guys are merely donning dresses to gain some sort of alleged advantage, at worst, the show is mocking transgenderism, something many people struggle with every day, as, in general, transgender groups have not yet made many of the strides towards acceptance that gay, lesbian, and bisexual groups have.

-Is the transgender community being too sensitive? The argument could be made that transgenders are not being made fun of here, fun is being made of two guys who were so desperate for employment, they tried to pass as women to do so (in this case does this poke fun at the record number of people who can't find jobs in this economy and are struggling to make ends meet, suggesting that maybe a gender change might solve their problem?). Feeling like you were born the wrong gender and feeling it so strongly that you'd rather present as the so-called opposite sex, even to the detriment of one's employment, is a very real issue facing a lot of people today. Presenting as a different gender will certainly rule one out of the possibility of employment for a (seemingly high) percentage of workplaces. Despite this many people still present as the opposite gender they were born with. How hurtful (if at all) is ABC's message to that group?

My own personal opinion? I'm not sure I've formulated one yet. The premise of the show does seem insensitive, but on the other hand I wouldn't have watched this show anyway. It doesn't seem particularly entertaining and, as I stated above, the whole concept of it doesn't make any sense to me. But what do I know? This show will probably be the ratings darling of ABC by next year at this time.

Top 10 of 2011: #4 Falke Seidenglatt 15

One of my favorite pairs of pantyhose, from one of my favorite designers.

I gushed about them a second time on 11/11.

These are pretty close to being the ultimate in pantyhose, as far as I'm concerned. The only reasons 3 other pairs finished ahead of the Falke Seidenglatt 15 on this list is because of the relatively steep price tag and the relatively short shelf life of these pantyhose. In terms of the price tag, while I've seen them retail for upwards of $30, you can get them at a relative steal (Just under $16) here. And believe me, when I saw that price, I bought (close to) every color. In terms of shelf life, these tights are somewhat delicate. No, they're not the wear once and throw away kind, by any means, but at 15 denier, you can't reasonably expect these pantyhose to be around forever either. Some other designers make similar pantyhose at 20 denier. They look almost the same on the leg, but they last a hell of a lot longer. That has to be taken under consideration.

All of that said, I absolutely love these. If money were no object (and if I took torn pantyhose a little less personally) these might just be the only pantyhose I owned. They have a silky soft feel and a gorgeous shine. These look amazing in any color you choose and feel even better. They come from a designer that has never delivered anything but high quality, as far as I'm concerned. These are definitely among the all-time favorites for me. Just writing about them makes me want to go buy more...

Top 10 of 2011: #5 Pierre Mantoux Lorine Mock Stocking Tights

Can anyone believe how fast December is going by? I thought I could easily bang out 10 posts looking back over the course of the year, but as I'm looking at my calendar now, and realizing I still have 5 of these posts left, I'm realizing I've got to start wrapping this up.

The review for the Pierre Mantoux Loring Mock Stocking Tights is almost a year old, itself, at this point. It was the first of what would turn out to be many pantyhose reviews over the course of 2011. But even after all the other reviews I did, these remained among my favorites.

I loved the floral mock-stocking design of these. The legs of these hose have such incredible detail. They look absolutely amazing. I also liked these because they had incredible fit. Pierre Mantoux is known for having pantyhose that cover an incredibly wide size range so you're sure to find the perfect fit. I still wear these very often, and whenever I do, I'm reminded of how much I like them and how I should really look into trying some more items from Pierre Mantoux. In fact, that is a great idea. I'll have to put this name at the top of my list for 2012.

Top 10 of 2011: #6 Cecilia de Rafael Agata 20

As I said when I originally reviewed, the mere sight of these pantyhose left me stunned. I reviewed these during a period of time when I was posting at least two reviews a week, so it was easy for some products to blend in and get lost. That's what really set these apart, in my opinion, they were so memorable.

At the time I was reviewing a lot of shiny tights. The shine on these may have surpassed them all, however. The Agata 20 were constructed out of an extra shiny yarn which really makes the shine on these pop. I'm sure you can see this quite clearly in the photo.

I also like them because they weren't super-sheer at 20 denier. I've said this a few times, but I've always found 20 to be the perfect denier count. The tights are still sheer, but they are strong enough to not damage too easily and heavy enough that they stay in place, throughout the day. Pantyhose with too low of a denier count not only seem to tear way too easily, but they also tend to get out of place over the course of the day. These did not.

Finally, these were designed to fit just about any body type possible. The legs are contoured and boarded to fit the shape of the leg and the foot perfectly. There was also a very generous lycra count, which helps these tights stretch more where they need to and constrict more as well, molding perfectly to the wearer's body shape. They also had a huge variety of sizes and colors and cost right around $11 a pair. Best part is, if you like these, you can still get them at Shapings.

Top 10 of 2011: #7 Oroblu Floriana

I reviewed a ton of Oroblu pantyhose this past year, and I really must say I loved all of them. Oroblu delivers a ton of quality for the price they charge. It seems like everything they make looks flawless and feels great. It's all very reasonably priced too, as it stands up quite well to the Wolfords and Falkes. Lately, when I am buying pantyhose for personal use (rather than purposely seeking out new brands/styles to review here) I always find myself going back to Oroblu. There really aren't any better brands for that price.

With all of the Oroblu I reviewed, I had several that could've made the list. The Floriana pantyhose did because they had the Oroblu quality and comfort that I had quickly grown accustomed to, and they also had a gorgeous floral pattern that I immediately fell in love with. I loved the soft, light beige tone of the tights and the way the colorful flowers just popped off the leg. The watercolor flower look was and still is a really unique look. I can't think of any other pantyhose to compare these to.

These really were the pantyhose of the spring and summer, as far as I was concerned. And I can attest to the quality as they're continuing to last me well into the winter. They were a seasonal item, so they're no longer available. But I'll be on the lookout for something similar this spring. Hopefully Oroblu can do it to me again.

Review: Adore Me Grace

A while back I posted about a then-soon-to-launch website, Adore Me, and their custom-created lingerie showrooms. Since then, they have launched, I have given them a try, and I am back to report about the experience.

First let's start with the custom showroom. Upon creating a free account at Adore Me, I was asked a few basic questions so they could get a better idea about my style. Minutes later, I was treated to a variety of lingerie collections, geared towards my style. I have to admit, I loved all of their selected looks. What's even better is next month (and every month) they'll have a whole new collection for me to check out.

The one that stood out to me the most, however, was the Grace set, pictured here. Long-time readers of my blog are probably not surprised that I was instantly drawn into the sheer set. Indeed, the delicate feminine set was screaming my name.

My experience with sheer lingerie has been both good and bad. Sometimes sheer lingerie can look stunning and feel delightful. Other times is can be ill-fitting and uncomfortable. It all depends on the materials and care used during the product design.

The grace set fits beautifully and feels even better. This set pretty much instantly became one of my favorites.

The shorts are sheer in the back and lacy in the front. The waistband and leg openings have a lovely lace detail to them and it is all finished with a big satin bow in the front. The fit of the shorts is perfect in every way. The material is soft and smooth and gives enough stretch to fit your shape perfect. The shorts are amazingly comfortable and feel great all day long. The look is equally amazing. The sheer back leaves just enough to the imagination to make wearing them more seductive than wearing nothing at all.

I think I liked the cami even better than the shorts. The soft material feels great against the skin and the shape of the cami seems to narrow you just a bit through the waist before flowing just a bit away at the bottom. It has small adjustable straps that don't dig in and feel good no matter how long you're wearing the cami. The lace cups match the front of the shorts while the rest of the piece is sheer, but not completely see through, just enough. Finally, the cups meet at another satin bow, which matches the one on the shorts.

This set is a must own. It is feminine and sexy, and yet completely comfortable. Because of the look, you'll want to wear it when you're trying to be your most seductive, but because of the fit and the feel, you'll want to wear it every day. For much less than the mall lingerie retailer would charge you for a similar set, I would definitely encourage you to check out the Grace set from Adore Me. I'm sure it will become a favorite of yours as well.

Top 10 of 2011: #8 Levante Bouquet

Levante was one of the first brands I discovered when I started blogging regularly about pantyhose. Upon discovering that there was about a million brands outside of what I was seeing in every department store nearby, I instantly took to Levante because of their affordability. When I began seeing what regular trips to the Wolford store was doing to my wallet, Levante became a go-to brand for me because I could build up my collection for what just a few pairs of Wolfords cost me.

All of this said, Levante doesn't typically make tights that stand out in a collection. 'Typically' being the key word.

From pretty much the instant I saw the Levante Bouquet pantyhose, I knew I needed to have them. They were and remain one of the more unique pairs of pantyhose I own, and not unique in a hit-you-over-the-head kind of way.

White pantyhose can be tricky, but Levante does these perfectly, with a gorgeous dot pattern with a floral design done over it. These were perfect springtime tights and they probably will be equally good next spring. If nothing else, I'll always appreciate the design that Levante came up with for these pantyhose.

Top 10 of 2011: #9 Trasparenze Becky

My countdown of the best pantyhose I reviewed in 2011, continues. If you missed #10...why not catch up here?

2011 may very well have been the year of Trasparenze for me. I purchased, wore, and reviewed quite a few different pairs of pantyhose from this designer. Part of this probably had to do with the fact that they seemed to have an endless pipeline of new designs, constantly hitting the stores. Honestly, any of their pantyhose could've made the top 10. I could've made a Trasparenze Top 10, in all likelihood.

Looking back, though, the Becky's were definitely my favorite. I liked the shade (cosmetic), I liked the garter/stocking/backseam design, I liked the 20 denier sheerness, and I loved the feel. Trasparenze pantyhose always feel amazing on.

With designs like these, they're always easy to keep track of. Plain sheer black pantyhose get lumped together in a draw and blend in together. Pantyhose like these obviously can't. This gives me an opportunity to easily monitor the quality as the wears begin to pile up. I can honestly say these start to feel better after a few washes and wears...as though they're starting to mold to your shape. They've more than held up over time. It's like the material has actually softened and become even more comfortable than I originally thought.

These tights are still available at UK Tights. They cost under $19. They honestly remind me of Wolford tights that sell for 3 or 4 times as much, and, after several wears of each, I can say their quality is every bit as good. I'm certain these will continue to be favorites of mine, well into 2012.

Top 10 of 2011: #10 Cette Sao Paolo

Fact: In the first 11 months of 2011, I reviewed 56 pairs of pantyhose (not all at once, I think that would've cut off my circulation).

I'm not saying I'm proud of this fact...I'm just pointing it out.

Second Fact: I have this unexplainable fascination with countdowns. Every year my local radio station counts down the Top 100 alternative songs of the year. I need to hear it. Or when I'm flipping channels and I stumble upon a countdown show...NFL Network's Top 10 quarterbacks of the 1980s? Yeah, I'm watching. VH1's Top 100 one-hit wonders of the 1990s? I think I'll stay and watch this. AMC is counting down the Top 25 horror movies of all time? I think you get the picture. I have no idea...it's a gimmick that sucks me in every time.

And I'm not above using said gimmick.

So....56 pairs of eligible pantyhose. I'm counting down my top 10. Why should you care? I bet you didn't try 56 different pairs of pantyhose this year...that's why.

The rules are simple. I had to review them on this blog this year. That rules out...muck that I didn't bother posting (which wouldn't have made the list anyway). Stuff I reviewed in past years (they'll just have to wait until I unveil my Top 100 of the 21st Century...just kidding...I think).

#10: Cette Sao Paolo Tights - Originally Reviewed 4/26

A few things I took away when I first wore these, back in April: They had a nice shine to them, they were very durable, and they were an exceptional value. The thing that really struck me, though, was the high-quality feel they had to them.

When your pantyhose collection is the size mine is, they obviously can tend to blend in together as they are continually worn, washed, and thrown back in the drawer (or box, or bin....or closet....yes, I know, I have a problem!). Pairs that have a print on the leg, or something like a tag or a logo make them easier to identify as they get mixed in with the collection. This pair of pantyhose has no tag or logo or otherwise to help identify them. What kept them from getting lost in the shuffle really was their quality. They look as good as they do here in the picture, and their feel is really just incredibly soft. They are an absolute pleasure to wear.

I often read about how some women loathe pantyhose, and the complaint is always discomfort. I think part of the problem is most brands that you buy off the shelf of a department store really aren't all that well made and do lack quality and comfort. This is the type of pantyhose that might just change a few people's minds about the lack of comfort.

For people who, understandably, don't want to pay the premium prices of a Wolford or Falke, and don't like the look and feel of department store brands, Cette is a good name to look for. They have a huge variety of basics, and their sizes, colors, denier counts, and levels of shine really do cover all of the bases. What's more is most of their basics cost at or around $10. For those who would like to try Cette, I think the Sao Paolo is a great place to start. The 18 denier is a good balance of sheer-but-not-too-sheer, and the look and feel could not be more attractive.

For all of that, these were an easy addition to my top 10 for the year. If you're interested in a closer look, UK Tights and Hoseria, both currently offer these pantyhose right near $10 each.

Holiday Pantyhose

Hard to believe, at least for me, but the holiday party season is upon us. Pantyhose are always a key ingredient, this time of year. If Europe represents the universe of hosiery, Italy is most certainly at its very center. Not only is Italy home to several outstanding pantyhose designers, many other European countries have begun to outsource their production to Italy.

At the top of the pantyhose world in Italy, stands Trasparenze.

In existence for over 30 years now, Trasparenze has been able to stand out among its competition, due to it's fearless approach toward designing.

The fact is, price can be a decent barometer of pantyhose quality. I will swear by the quality of premium brands such as Wolford, Fogal, Falke, and Pierre Mantoux, just to name a few. But there are plenty of high quality/low price options.

So for this exercise I dug deep into the drawer. I stayed away from anything considered fashion or seasonal, so all of these options are readily available to buy, and all of them are under $10. I'm linking the name of the pantyhose to when I originally reviewed them. I'll also link to a website where you can purchase them for less than $10.

Trasparenze Rosy

I originally reviewed these back in August. These are an overlook pair of pantyhose mainly because Trasparenze is much better known for their wild designs. When reviewing these, I remarked about how Trasparenze has it's own unique feel, and that is certainly true, in a good way. There is nothing generic about these. In fact, even though I had reviewed these, I couldn't believe they retailed for around $10. I had remembered them being more expensive than that. But these are high quality, smooth, durable tights. I'm pretty sure you'll have the same reaction I did, that these feel much more expensive.

Filodoro Aurora 15

Filodoro, lesser known around my way, is a very prominent brand in Italy. One thing I've learned about Italy...they know their pantyhose. The Aurora 15's look amazing on the legs. You really have to see it to understand. They also are soft and shiny, although not quite as smooth as the Trasparenze tights above.

You can buy them at Shapings for $7.84. That's right...$7.84!

Cette Panama

Cette is another brand that has some very expensive fashion pantyhose, but offers you a great deal on some of the basics. Perhaps no deal is better than what they offer for the Panama tights. These are a very thin lycra style pantyhose. They feel pretty delicate, but they're 15 denier, so they're a little sturdier and not actually in the ultra-sheer category. If you can match them up closely with your skin tone, you can actually have the bare-leg look while also giving off a bit of a satin shine. They also have a touch of Aloe Vera to help keep your legs moisturized. These tights are a tremendous value. I've seen similar ones for 2 or 3 times as much.

Aristoc Ultra Shine

Aristoc is one of those brands you can't go wrong with. It seems like everything they make is around the $10 mark. These are called 'Ultra Shine' but I actually didn't find them to be super shiny. They are very soft and smooth and do give your leg an unblemished, polished look. They are also very delicate, though, so you're going to want to use extreme care when handling them, especially when putting them on.

You can buy them at UK Tights for $7.51.

Charnos Sheer Lustre

Finally, we have the Charnos Sheer Lustre. Like Aristoc, Charnos, makes a lot of pantyhose at a great value. These are actually smoother than the Aristoc tights as well as being slightly less sheer at 15 denier, and sturdier. I liked these a lot because of the polished look they give as well as their durability. For an inexpensive pair of pantyhose, you'll get a lot of use out of these.

These are definitely the five I would most recommend. Other good ones worth checking out are the Charnos Simply Bare, the Consay Silence, and the Levante Class. Happy Shopping!

This Winter, I'm all about the bright colors. Ditching the basics for something really eye-catching is the way to go this season. After a hiatus, the Satin De Luxe Tights from Wolford are available again. These tights are definitely a winter essential.

They are opaque tights that come in black or mocca and have a gorgeous shine to them. They are the perfect complement to the skirt & boots look that are always popular this time of year. While they are tights that cover your feet, they have a thick legging-like feel to them that can also make them a good option under sweater dresses. Really, there is no shortage of uses for them. And with the winter set to descend upon us, you're sure to get plenty of use out of them all season.

Waiting for Falke

My latest leg wear splurge has been for the Falke Seidenglatt 15. I've been coveting more pairs of these delicious tights since I reviewed them last May. These tights are the absolute perfect combination of silky sheerness, smoothness, and shiny gorgeousness. While they are a tad sheerer than the Wolford Satin 20, they are every bit as shiny. As you can probably tell, I can hardly wait for the package to arrive.

If you're like me, and you don't speak a word of German, you may be wondering what 'Seidenglatt' means. Turns out if means "silky smooth" in English. Now what could sound better than that?

Falke is one of those brands that is never hard to find. It seems like every website that sells leg wear has Falke available among their product line. I have, however, done the leg work for you, if you're looking for the very best price and the very best selection (and really, who isn't?). Turns out Hosieria has both. While I've seen the Seidenglatt 15's retail for as much as $30, on some websites, you can find them at Hosieria for a much more reasonable $16.34. The only problem you'll have in fact, is trying to decide which of the 23 shades you want to purchase. Hopefully, unlike myself, you won't get too carried away!

Pantyhose Profile: Cecilia de Rafael

Looking at a luxury hosiery collection can be like looking at a map of Europe. Every brand seems to come from a different country, and every country, it seems, has it's own trademark brand. Indeed, Switzerland has Fogal, Austria has Wolford, Italy has Trasparenze, and Germany has Falke. Just the same, Spain has Cecilia de Rafael. And while countries across the European union are united by their similarities, it is their subtle differences that make each country unique. The same can be said for its tights, and Cecilia de Rafael is no exception.

Compared to some of its European counterparts, Cecilia de Rafael is still in its relative infancy. It was founded in 1976 by Alvaro Ramon Caballe as a company that manufactured and marketed tights, socks, and seamless underwear.

While the company is headquartered in Barcelona, Spain, most of the production is done in Italy.

It's brand is marketed as medium-high quality range of hosiery with an expansive product line and it's targeted at women between the ages of 25 and 50.

Review: Miss Oroblu Wild Tights

I often spend a lot of time on this blog praising the versatility of certain tights. There's definitely something to be said for the usefulness of tights that can work for a variety of occasions. On the other hand, what can be better than having tights that can turn heads for an entire Saturday night? It isn't always about fitting in, and these are certainly the tights that will make you stand out.

The Miss Oroblu Wild Tights are just those tights, and they are available now at UK Tights. I really like the way UK Tights featured these on the model, in fact. When I looked at them I instantly thought "Saturday Night", but they created the look of someone with a more artistic side than party side in this photo. It just goes to show that even these tights can be versatile. In reality, these are a good pair of tights whenever you want to show a little personality or whenever you want to show off your fun side.

Miss Oroblu started with an opaque (70 Denier) pair of tights (in either Night (navy) or Black colors), and embellished them with a contrasting stripe up the side as well as mixing in fishnet sections up the outer leg. They are incredibly durable, and look great no matter what the shape or size of your leg may be. If you're looking for a pair of tights that can add a big splash to your current collection, these would make a great pair.

The tights are made from a blend of 87% nylon, 8% polypropylene, and 5% elastane. Despite the seemingly low elastane count, these tights do have a great amount of stretch and durability. They also have a cotton gusset. The tights are available in 2 sizes but do fit over a wide range of heights 4'9"-5'11" comfortably. As always with Oroblu, they are of tremendous quality, and should easily stand the test of time, making these tights quite a good value, at under $24.

Coming Back...And Moving On

So yeah...it's been a while. 37 days, to be exact. How was your October?

Since blogging is all about enjoyment for me, sometimes I take a step back when it starts to feel too much like work. Keeping that in mind I'm probably gonna make a few changes.

-While I enjoyed the themed days of the week, I'm probably going to post less frequently than that...like...only when I have something to say.

-While this blog is always going to be about lingerie, most recently my passion has moved more in the direction of leg wear, as you probably have noticed. I'm probably going to shift my focus towards that end even more. I'm even toying with the idea of altering the name of my blog a bit to reflect that. I know leg wear isn't for everyone, but I hope its a change that my regular readers will accept and hopefully even like.

-Speaking of readers, it was nice hearing from some of you via email, while I was away from blogging. It still surprises me that I've gotten even one person to read this blog, let alone have people actually notice when I'm not around. I can't even begin to express how much I appreciate that. Always feel free to drop me a line, and I'm always interested in hearing what you like to read about. If there's a subject I'm not focusing on enough or at all, that you'd like to hear about, let me know!

Sooooooo. If anyone is still reading this, I'd love to get your opinion. I'm trying to decide between three different styles of tights. They're all from Cecilia de Rafael, who I've reviewed here many times, and they're all on the sheerer and shinier side. On one hand, the fact that they're so much alike, I should just pick one and buy it, but on the other hand, because the differences are so subtle, I can't really decide. Any preferences?

Agata 20

These tights are really shiny...as in radiant. The light really bounces off of them. They have a lycra count of 13% and they are 20 denier, which means that while they're sheer, they should be pretty sturdy and long-lasting.

Sevilla 15

These are made from what they call 3D yarn. I'm not sure even I know what that means, but apparently, they look completely matte, until you put them on, and then they are suddenly brilliant. Other than that, they are a bit sheerer than the ones above at 15 denier, but they have a higher lycra count at 18% which should help make these a little sturdier. What's more, they come in exciting colors like lime, rose, indigo, and lavender.

Vidrio 15

Almost the same as the Sevilla's only with more...fleshy type tones. The 15 denier makes them sheerer, but the brilliance should still make them noticeable on the legs.

Rubino 22

The least sheer of the options at 22 denier. They are also probably the brightest. These are very stunning and noticeable tights despite also just coming in fleshy colors.

Like I said, these are all pretty much alike. I've just been going back and forth over them for a while without pulling the trigger. Any thoughts?

Tights Tuesday: Pretty Polly Shaded Diamond Tights

They are one size, and they really should fit just about anyone, as these tights conform to fit beautifully. The best part is, these tights cost less than $13, so looking smart and stylish does not have to be expensive at all, in this case.

Levante Class Tights

Nothing is better than finding a pair of tights that look like you spent a ton of money on when you really didn't. One of my favorite go-to brands for those types of tights is Levante. I am always impressed by the look and quality provided by Levante products in regards to their price point.

The Levante Class tights, available at Tights Please are a perfect example. They have an amazing sensual feel all day long. They also give off a radiant shine when light hits them just so. What's even better is that you can stock up on colors (which there are plenty of) and not have to worry about going broke. Over the last several months I've reviewed quite a few pairs of bright satin tights across quite a price range. The Levante class tights really do give you a remarkable value compared to many of the other brands.

These tights have a reinforced toe and just the slightest reinforced boxer brief. They also have a cotton gusset. And once again, their shine really is quite remarkable. They're 12 denier and come in sizes medium, tall, and extra tall. They also come in 6 varieties of color. They're 82% polyamide, 15% lycra, and 3% cotton. And, just in case you missed it, they're $7.67 at Tights Please. They feel great, and look like they should cost a whole lot more than they do. Stock up today, you know you need them!

They are extremely delicate, so you'll definitely need to hand wash and air dry these. What's best is, while mesh panties can often be quite expensive, these are actually very affordable at $16 or 2 for $30.

Jonathan Aston Gloss Opaque Tights

There are few things more essential every fall than a good pair of opaque tights. A good pair of opaque tights can extend the skirt wearing season for months. A glossy pair of tights can add a little life to an every day outfit.

The Jonathan Aston Gloss Opaque Tights, available at Tights Please do all of these things. They're part of Jonathan Aston's luxury line, and the do indeed feel luxurious. Before trying these, I didn't see a lot of difference among solid colored opaque tights. But the softness and smoothness of the Gloss Opaque Tights has never been equaled in my experience. It's a great opportunity to buy another great color, among them, pewter, purple, and storm, in addition to the always necessary basic black.

I absolutely adore everything about her style. I'm hoping she inspires more than her share of trends, before all is said and done...

Tights Tuesday: Trasparenze Auckland Suspender Tights

One more Trasparenze review to go, and this one might be the wildest. The Trasparenze Auckland Tights are my pick of the week from UK Tights. If you're a fan of the details, than these are most certainly the tights for you. I've reviewed a number of mock-suspender tights to this point, but the Auckland Tights certainly get the details done right.

Let's start with the belt-effect. It's done to look like a wide belt that has a floral lace effect, finished on top with the scalloped waistband that is quickly becoming a trademark of Trasparenze. Their are four garter-straps, two on each leg, that, if you look closely, even have the effects of strap adjusters and the attachment to the stocking. And the stocking? It isn't simply made to look like an ordinary stocking. Its a leopard print stocking with a scalloped lace top. In addition, you do, in a way, feel like you are wearing stockings, as opposed to tights, because the leopard stockings are done in a more opaque denier than the rest of the tights. See what I mean by details?

All in all, the tights are very well done. The effects are probably done more for a personal touch than for any sore of aesthetic for on-lookers. In other words, you would need to wear a really, really short skirt for anything but the leopard part of the tights to show. Only the very daring among us would attempt to show off the stocking top or garter strap effects. But just knowing that they're there can be enough.

As always with Trasparenze, the tights are very high quality, with great fit an maximum comfort. They are a great Autumn/Winter tight as they aren't particularly sheer and can serve to keep your legs warm as the cooler months begin to roll in. They're a fashion statement that you can make over and over as these tights are extremely durable and should stand up to many wears, but as always, do maintain the proper care including hand washing and air drying.

The tights are made from a blend of 85%polyamide and 15% elastane. The tights are 40 denier. They are available in 4 different sizes fitting heights between 4'9" and 6'1" comfortably. The tights come in a charcoal gray color with the top being a sheerer black, helping to create the garter/stocking like contrast. They are fully boarded to give your lower leg and foot the perfect fit. The tights cost just under $29. From a quality standpoint, I've tried department store tights that are just slight less expensive that don't fit nearly as well as these or are as well made and durable. Only Hearts is another brand I came across when shopping at a local lingerie boutique. My first purchase of this brand was the Organic Cotton Bikini pictured here. It certainly won't be my last.

I spend a lot of time on my blog profiling laces, tulles, and satins when it comes to panties. While I spend less time talking about basics, such as cotton bikinis, that shouldn't be interpreted as their being of less importance. The fact is, they may even be more important, because of their practicality and every-day usefulness. Just because they're "every-day" panties, it also doesn't mean that any cotton bikini will do.

The Only Hearts Organic Cotton Bikini may cost slightly more than the 5 for $25 cotton panties you can get at the chain store, but it also provides a far superior fit, quality, and comfort. Even as cotton panties go, this pair is probably among the best fitting and most comfortable that I've worn. In addition, this is among the softest cotton panties I've come across, these are just a joy to wear. For an investment of $16 ($8 right now for certain colors) you can feel the difference for yourself.

So the review of the amazing Autumn line from Trasparenze continues...

Today we're going to take a look at the Bangkok Tights, this week's pick from UK Tights. The Bangkok tights are another absolute stunner in this amazing season from Trasparenze. These tights are done in a snakeskin pattern. I've always found snakeskin to be a tricky design. If done right, they can look positively gorgeous, if not however, they can look very tacky. There isn't really any in-between, in my opinion.

Fortunately, Trasparenze hit this pattern out of the park. The tights are done in mettalic tones, with the textured designs forming a scaley snakeskin pattern. The bright metallic shine helps to accentuate the pattern and leaves a polished look on the legs. These are the perfect tights for a night out and a perfect complement to a chic outfit. These tights can be used again and again to add an edge to a variety of different looks. They have such a high quality fit and feel, and, as with most Trasparenze tights, long lasting durability that you'll get plenty of milage out of these tights.

These tights are made in Italy from a blend of 85% polyamide and 15% elastane. They are opaque at 50 denier. Virtually no leg should show through the pattern on these tights. They are available in black, silver, and bronze in sizes 1-4, which should fit heights between 4'9" and 6'1" comfortably.

These tights cost $22. This is very reasonable for tights of these quality. You should plan on these lasting for many many wears, with the proper care.

Temptation Thursday: Marika Vera Lingerie and the Venus In Furs Collection

Today, it is my great honor to give you all a look at the amazing new collection from the Marika Vera Better Than Naked line. First off, I love the label. The right lingerie is always "better than naked". One look at the photos below, and I'm sure you'll agree that the label fits the line.

The Marika Vera label is brand new, but this collection, set to launch this year, will be her third. Most of the pieces featured below will be available to purchase next month. The focus of the brand is on hand made lingerie using high quality fabrics and trimmings with the focus always being on accentuating the erotic element of the garments.

The inspiration behind the Venus in Furs collection, is a 19th century novel by the same name. This ahead-of-its-time novel featured the passion between a man in a woman that ultimately results in him becoming her slave. The novel, by Leopold von Sacher-Masoch, is generally credited with giving birth to erotic masochism. This line transforms the novel into an amazing array of silk and chiffon that intentionally leaves areas uncovered for easier access.

The inaugural collection from Marika Vera Better Than Naked indicates that a new luxury label has hit the lingerie world. I certainly plan to feature this brand as often as possible on this blog, going forward.

Tights Tuesday: Trasparenze Dubai Mock Stocking Tights

A few weeks back, I did a quick preview of the fall collection from Trasparenze. This week, I get to put one of them on and review it for real.

Among the stunning looks this fall from Trasparenze, is the Dubai Mock Stocking Tights, this week's pick from UK Tights. For starters, the detail on these tights are amazing. I honestly wish I could spend a day with the designers at Trasparenze. Despite the fact that there is a lot going on with these tights, it all comes together to form an elegant look.

The leg, or stocking, of these tights is done in a diamond pattern of black done on top of a lighter, almost beige/black mixture. It is done all the way down to the non-reinforced toe and can look almost like an industrial net in a diamond pattern. At mid-thigh, the stocking "connects" to individual garters on each leg. I believe this is the first time I've seen Trasparenze (or anyone else for that matter) do this type of effect rather than the garter belt effect. The garters are done in a tighter diamond pattern and also contain the Trasparenze logo on each leg. For an added touch of femininity, the garter straps have a rose detail where each garter strap connects to the stockings. As I said, the detail on these is quite remarkable. The top of these tights is sheer and cosmetic (a beige color) save for a black "block crotch" line down the middle of the front.

As with anything I've tried from Trasparenze, the quality of these tights is second-to-none and the comfort is tops as well. These tights can feel comfortable all day long, and can certainly be used to add life to an outfit that you may have worn a hundred times before. These stockings certainly are show-stoppers.

The Dubai tights are made in Italy from a blend of 85% Polyamide and 15% elastane. They are available in 4 sizes, fitting heights between 4'9" and 6'1" very comfortably. The tights are somewhat opaque, at 60 denier, making them a good option throughout the fall and well into the winter months. These tights cost $24. I've seen Wolford charge 3 times as much for stockings that were no higher quality and actually not as detailed. The price is exceptional value considering the unique look as well as the fact that, with proper care, these tights are high enough quality that they will last you for a very long time.

Review: Ava Loves Peachy Bum Control Knickers

Somewhat surprisingly, this is my first review of control knickers or even shapewear in general. After trying the Ava Loves Peachy Bum Control Knicker, available at Lingerie Please, however, it certainly isn't going to be my last.

I always had two thoughts about shapewear that, in general, kept me away from it. The first was that it never was all that appealing to the eye. As someone who has built a blog around eye-catching lingerie, shapewear always seemed like the ugly half-cousin to me. Secondly, shapewear makes me think of tight, suffocating, restrictive clothing. I get that it was created with a purpose in mind, and in order for it to achieve that purpose, it has to fit snugly, but the whole experience seemed unpleasant to me.

But hey, I didn't take this job because it was pleasant (oh wait, yeah I did), I took it to provide a service to all of you in the lingerie market (oh well, yeah, that too...).

My thoughts? Maybe I need to rethink the way I feel about shapewear. First, I absolutely love the look of the Peachy Bum Control Knicker. It's got feminine touches like the floral lace detail across the front. It's got patches of sheer (mainly on the back) and you know how I feel about sheer knickers. It's got other little details like a slightly scalloped waist band. The whole things comes together for a perfect looking piece of shapewear.

Beyond that it feels great. This vision of myself slowly turning purple as the day went on couldn't have been more wrong. This is and extremely comfortable pair of knickers...as in...I'd wear these even if they weren't providing me the added benefit of shaping. And as far as that goes...well, I've worn these Seven for Mankind jeans a million times before...but for some reason...it wasn't until today that they became my favorite pair of jeans ;).

The control knicker is made from a blend of 88% nylon and 12% spandex. It is available in black and fleshtone (a light beige) in sizes small through XX large. I would highly recommend this to both fans of shapewear and people who have been hesistant to try shaping knickers in the past. At a price like $27, it is certainly worth the try over higher priced similar items.

In my several years of blogging, fewer things excite me more than coming across a designer who is taking a fresh look at lingerie. There are hundreds of brand names out there and after a while it can sometimes be difficult to tell them apart.

I've come to realize that it's not often I review a cotton panty. Being the lingerie fan that I am, it seems that I am naturally drawn to the satins and laces. That being the case, it can sometimes be hard to get excited about cotton panties.

...sometimes being the key word here.

It may take a little more work, but cotton panties can be sexy and feminine as opposed to boring and ordinary. The Come Out & Play Bikini by Between The Sheets is a perfect example. After admiring from afar much of what Between The Sheets has been doing lately, I've finally gotten the opportunity to give them a try. My first impression is that I can't wait to go back for more.

These cotton panties are among the softest and most comfortable I've tried. They have a perfect stretch and cling snuggly to your form. As cotton panties go, you're probably not going to find any that feel better than this on.

What's more is I love the detail of these. Soft colors are offset by 3/8 inches of pretty lace detail both down the front of the panty and along the leg openings. A one inch lace waistband adds perfectly to the feminine detail. The panties are medium rise. The panty is finished off perfectly with a bow on the front of another contrasting color, depending on what color panty you chose. There are certainly no shortage of color options either, seven to be exact. Each one is more gorgeous than the next.

The panties are made from a blend of 90% modal and 10% lycra. They are available in sizes XS, S, M, & L. They cost $34.

Review: Baci Lingerie Multiway Deep V Push Up Bra

It seems like forever since I reviewed a bra, but at least I picked a good one today. The bra pictured here is the Baci Lingerie Multiway Deep V Push Up Bra which can be purchased from Lingerie Please. First off for this bra is it's functionality. It can be worn a variety of different ways which lends itself to a multitude of different tops and dresses. The straps can be worn over the shoulder in the conventional manner or, if that look doesn't work, they can criss-cross in a racer-back style, they can be wrapped around the back of the neck as a halter bra, or removed all together and be worn as a strapless bra.

In my opinion, finding the right strapless bra can be tricky, because so often the bra will end up digging in, in order to stay in place. No so with the Baci Bra. In fact, I couldn't get over how comfortable this bra was no matter which way it was worn. This bra can be worn all day long and feel as good at the end of the day as it did in the beginning. In addition, with its white color, its soft cups, and smooth texture, this bra virtually disappears under most shirts, both in the front and in the back.

If all of this isn't enough, this bra is extremely affordable at $13.11. Bras at places like Victoria's Secret, which have no recognizable difference, can often retail for 3 or even 4 times as much. The value of this bra, offered by Lingerie Please, cannot be beat. It's worth buying in both the black and the white colors. It may very well be the only bra you ever need.

The Meteore collection is a combination of guipure lace and stretch voile. Do I know what that means? Not really, but the result is a bunch of floral-lacey pieces that are to die for. The stretch material also promises perfect fit and comfort.

My UK Tights pick of the week is the Rosy Tights from Trasparenze. While Trasparenze is usually known for their fashion tights, the Rosy tights are from their basic range. While it isn't always easy to find the unique look that needs to go with some Trasparenze tights, the Rosy tights are appropriate for almost any occasion. They are a basic, solid, 20 denier pair of tights that are highly durable and extremely smooth and comfortable. It's hard to explain, but Trasparenze tights seem to have their own unique feel. I always know when I'm wearing them, and these tights fit that description, as well.

These are a great option for office wear as they are reasonably priced, as well as durable. Their wide range of colors make it easy to pair these tights up with whatever look you're going for that day.

The tights are made from a blend of 82% nylon, 14% elastane, and 4% cotton. They come in 5 sizes (small to maxi) comfortable fitting heights between 4'10" and 6'. They also come in 6 different colors with some basics mixed in with a bright red and a navy blue. At less than $13 a pair, you may want to collect them all.

If I ever were to give up my recent Cosabella obsession, these panties ain't gonna help. At the risk of sounding redundant...I love the Amore Mio Bikini.

Of course, there isn't much to dislike. These panties are soft, pretty, and feminine. They look and feel great, as well. They are made from a soft, stretchy microfiber, and have a medium rise, making these the perfect panties for an almost endless variety of body types. They fit perfectly and may be the most comfortable pair of panties I own. In addition, they are lightweight with full coverage and a lined gusset.

The feminine detail on these is gorgeous. Typically, I'd associate a nude color more with functionality then femininity, but Cosabella knows how to make up for that. All along the edges of this panty is a small frilly lace trim. It's a small detail, but it does wonders as far as how pretty it makes this panty. Also, the front of the waistband is finished off with a floral detail. All in all, this panty is very well done by Cosabella.

The panty is made from a blend of 82% nylon and 18% elastane. The elastane lends itself to the stretchiness and makes the panty that much more comfortable. It's available in sizes small, medium, and large. A matching bra and thong are available as well. The Amore Mio bikini costs $21.50. It's not the most inexpensive panty I own, but I've seen panties for twice as much that weren't half as nice. So I'd call this a great buy!

This week's pick from UK Tights is outstanding pair of tights from luxury brand Pierre Mantoux. The Charente Tights are a blend of look and feel that make these a perfect pair of tights. Immediately upon opening the package I noticed a difference as the tights actually come with instructions on both how to put on and take off these tights as well as how to store them to ensure the longest life possible. Of course, I don't need to go over that as readers of this blog already know all about those topics already ;).

The tights are very soft and comfortable as well as quite durable. They have a comfort waistband to help them sit comfortably at the waist, but in addition to this, the fabric is very comfortable, and the tights have a generous amount of stretch combined with no loss of consistency of the look on the leg.

The tights are advertised as brilliant. I found that they had more of a subtle shine than a brilliant one. It's enough to make the tights look very good, but not so overwhelming that you'd want to restrict where you would wear these. Instead, they give your legs a polished look that would be appropriate regardless of the occasion. These really are an essential pair of tights to own.

The tights are made from a blend of 89% nylon and 11% elastane. They are available in 4 sizes, fitting heights between 5 feet and 6 feet. They are available in 4 colors. They are sheer at 20 denier. At $22, they are not inexpensive, but for this combination of look and quality, they are certainly worth every penny.

Truth be told, I had always expected (hoped) that my lasting impression of Pamela Anderson would be of her being accosted by Borat. In terms of riding off in to the sunset, there are certainly worse ways to go. But then again, so few of us bow out when we're at the top of our game...

And so, Pamela is back, as a pitch person for house-of-vintage-lingerie, Secrets in Lace. Unofficially, she'll be the third person to unveil on her own line of vintage stockings, joining Dita Von Teese and the late Betty Page, who wasn't exactly around to sign off on the idea herself.

According to the website, Pamela Anderson is a true stocking lover because she knows how a great pair of stockings brings our every woman's femininity. Indeed.

Pamela is not exactly in my wheelhouse. I was a bit young when she was doing the Playmate of the Month thing. I never watched Baywatch and I missed Barb Wire and I, uh, passed on the the Tommy Lee video. At the same time, she has managed to become quite the household name, over the last twenty years. And if you're looking for someone to pitch stockings, there are worse directions you could go in.

For Secrets in Lace, the marketing plan is pretty evident: become the Nike of stockings. In the spirit of Nike, they are finding the big names in the industry and attaching their names to a product line. Whether or not they find their own personal Air Jordan's, remains to be seen.

What's unfortunate about the Pamela Anderson Collection is the same thing that was unfortunate about the Dita Von Teese collection: They're the exact same thing as the regular collection, save for a signature logo on the stocking top. Don't get me wrong, I love vintage stockings and have always appreciated SIL's efforts to bring them to the masses, but saying Anderson had a hand in designing these is quite a stretch. Read more closely and that is explained as "working closely with them to create the welt imprint and stocking colors". So an extra few bucks gets you a welt imprint.

So Pamela Anderson is back. Get her stockings now before they're all gone.

As far as I know, Borat has not yet been reached for comment.

With all the tights reviews I've done over the last several years, I couldn't believe that this is the first time I'd be reviewing a product from Le Bourget. Le Bourget is a high-end designer, originally from France, now operating out of Italy. Their product is known for its fashionable design as well as its high quality. Some of their fashion tights and stockings have the most stunning patterns and designs. Today, however, I'm reviewing one of their basics, which just happen to be a great summer tight...perfect for the heat wave that's currently sweeping through this country.

The Teint Magique 15D tights, are a soft, smooth, lightweight pair of tights. They already seem to be shining brightly as you remove them from the package, but on the leg, the shine becomes more subtle, somehow. This is by design, as the tights are meant to blend into the shade of your leg, which they do perfectly. You have to be pretty close up to be able to see the tights at all. The tights are offered in a variety of skin-tone shades that are intended to help your legs look tanned. In addition, the subtle shine makes the legs look well-moisturized. These are the perfect pair of tights for when you don't have as much time as you need in the morning to put yourself together. In addition, they're so lightweight that they feel like nothing on your legs. You probably will forget that you are even wearing them. For 15 denier tights, I've never felt anything lighter. If I hadn't known, I would've guessed they were twice as sheer as they are. The only drawback is that you do need to be careful with these, particularly when putting them on or taking them off. They will not stand up to a lot of abuse. Hand washing is an absolute must (as always).

The tights are made from a blend of 50% polyamide and 50% polyurethane. They come in 3 different skin-shades and 4 different sizes, fitting heights between 5'1" and 6'1", although, in my experience, I do think they run a bit smaller than that. They are sheer to waist with a sheer toe, flat seems, and a cotton gusset. They cost $20.46, which isn't bad for the quality of tights that you are getting, especially for what they can do to the look of your legs. For an additonal $1.50, they're also available with a tummy control panty.

Panty Monday: Cosabella Soire Thong Review

It's been quite a while since I reviewed panties on this blog. But I'm definitely excited about today's review: The Cosabella Soire Thong.

A couple of months ago, I discussed the long-awaited update that Cosabella had completed on its Soire line. The update was to have consisted of making the material, a microfiber mesh, thinner, stretchier, and more comfortable, with no cutting. I'm happy to report that they have achieved all of these goals. As someone who enjoyed everything about the old Soire line, I was eagerly awaiting my opportunity to try the updated version, and was not disappointed.

Disclosure: I hate the Royals. I always have. I'm pretty sure this makes me nothing short of loathsome in a lot of people's opinion.

The thing is, I grow tired very quickly...more quickly than anyone else I know. I have no idea why. It happens in many different aspects of my life. I'll hear a brand new song and love it...I week later I'll be ready to rip my car radio out of the dash because I'm sick of hearing it already. I'll get sucked into a new show on TV, only to roll my eyes and change the channel halfway through the first season. Hell, I can barely stomach the site of our local three time Super Bowl winning quarterback and his lingerie model wife, because I'm so tired of the local news outlets updating me on his whereabouts every waking hour.

In a lot of ways, I'm a marketing execs worst nightmare (I'll give you all a minute to finish laughing...seeing as I'm the guy who has been bombarding you with tights sales every day for three years). I have a short attention span. I move on quickly when they're not of a very high level of interest to me.

Which is where the Royals come in.

They live in a palace surrounded by guards in ridiculous outfits. They drink high tea. They play polo. They go places and do things while wearing ridiculous hats.

They add no value to society. They're rulers who don't rule. They're a family that's popular because they're a family. They're essentially a (much, much) more refined Kardashians.

Princess Diana passed away two days after my 20th birthday. I remember hearing the news and wondering why all these people had to chase her around in the first place, just for a photo opportunity. But it was since then that I realized how much attention these people get. They don't go to the store or grab a cup of coffee without the entire world knowing about it and getting instant photo proof of it, complete with commentary about what they were wearing and how they looked (most probably a ridiculous hat was involved).

The engagement/wedding was the height of it for me. I got 24/7 news updates about stuff that wouldn't have been interesting to me if it involved some member of my family. I got wedding updates that I wouldn't have given a rat's ass about if it were my wedding they were talking about. I couldn't escape it. It was everywhere.

Which brings us to Wednesday morning. As usual, I was driving to work, listening to the morning show on the local alternative rock station thinking about something other than the Royals, when the news portion of the show came up. Headline number one: "Kate Middleton is attempting to bring back pantyhose." ...Wait...what?

This is big, my friends.

Look. I get it. I wasn't exactly under the impression that I've been pushing the world's most popular product on this blog. I realize a great many people would sooner wrap the pantyhose around their neck then roll them up their legs. A mere 3 years ago, Shine from Yahoo! declared pantyhose deceased...at the young age of 43.

Then came Kate.

She's been spotted recently walking around in pantyhose, and there couldn't be a hotter topic going. Don't believe me? Google 'Kate Middleton Stockings' ...563,000 results. Try 'Kate Middleton Pantyhose'...253,000 results. Better go with 'Kate Middleton Nylons' ...that will give you 3,930,000 results. Wouldn't want to miss anything.

The buzz is incredible. People are wondering if bare legs are out and if pantyhose are making a comeback There are fashion bloggers that are irate at the sight of it and offended that Kate would do such a horrible thing as bring pantyhose back.

US Magazine recently posted a poll: Would You Wear Sheer Stockings Like Kate Middleton? Care to guess the results? Apparently 79% think, 'Yes, they're elegant' to only 21% who argue 'No, they look outdated'. Wonder what that poll would've looked like before Kate came along?

So here I am. The girl from the family that I've made no attempt to hide my disdain for for so many years is apparently doing me a solid. Mere months after I shook my head at people who constantly followed her or expressed confusion at my friends who took the day off to see the wedding, she's giving me a gift. The rich, refined, educated, tea-drinking Kardashian could be on the verge of single-handedly turning an entire industry around. What can I say?
